Anti-spam appliance firm Barracuda Networks has bought application firewall firm NetContinuum. Financial terms of the deal, announced Monday, were not disclosed.

NetContinuum markets a range of appliances that protect the websites of enterprises from web-based threats such as cross-site scripting or SQL injection attacks.

Web Application Firewalls sit in front of a web server, analysing requests and responses for known attacks or suspicious behaviours.

NetContinuum competes in the market against the likes of Imperva, Watchfire, Breach Security, and others.

Both Barracuda Networks and NetContinuum predict bumper terms ahead for the market segment as e-commerce firms apply increased security protection to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Barracuda Networks said it will continue to work with all NetContinuum sales channel partners. The majority of NetContinuum's 75 workers will join Barracuda, it added. ®
