Murdoch's PIE BOY jailed for six weeks

A protester who attacked Rupert Murdoch last month at a parliamentary hearing into the phone-hacking scandal engulfing News Corp's sister company News International has been handed a six-week jail term this afternoon.

The self-styled "activist, comedian, father figure and all-round nonsense", who has a Twitter handle of Jonnie Marbles, pondered his fate ahead of the sentencing, reported by the BBC, at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court today.

"I'm sure my punishment will be every bit as fair and proportionate as the one Murdoch received. Oh, hang on..." he tweeted.

But for all the humour, Jonathan May-Bowles, 26, of Edinburgh Gardens, Windsor, Berkshire had previously admitted to assault and causing harassment, alarm or distress against 80-year-old Murdoch.

The News Corp boss wasn't hurt in the attack on 20 July when May-Bowles clumsily hit Murdoch with a paper plate filled with foam.

Six weeks might seem like a lot for flipping foam at someone, but Charlie Gilmour got 16 months for swinging on a flag during student protests.

During the one-man protest Murdoch's wife Wendi Deng managed to clobber May-Bowles with her right hand. He was quickly detained by police. ®
