A version of OpenOffice that will run natively under Mac OS X's Aqua user interface will be demo'd in public at Apple Expo Paris next month, the team behind the software have revealed.

To date, the open-source productivity software suite has only run under the X11 Unix windowing system. Apple bundles an X11 implementation with Mac OS X, but many Mac users prefer the operating system's own look and feel.

The current version of OpenOffice for Mac OS X, 2.0.3, is available here. It runs natively on both PowerPC and x86 processors, but users will have to install X11 first if they haven't already. The utility is available on the Mac OS X 10.4 install DVD. Versions for earlier releases of the OS are available from Apple's website.

Apple Expo Paris runs from 12-16 September at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles. ®
