Zavvi tells customers: You've won VIP tickets to Champions League final! And you've won tickets, and you've won tickets, and you, and...
Congratulations, Liverpool and Spurs fans! Wait... never mind
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are off to Madrid for the Champions League final after emphatic wins against Barcelona and Ajax – so of course devotees were ecstatic to find they had won all-expenses-paid VIP tickets to the footie match courtesy of etailer Zavvi.
However, that joy soon turned to ash in their mouths when it became clear that everyone who entered the competition had won too.
Several lucky Register readers who took a punt on the prize draw forwarded us the golden email, which read:

Recipients naturally took to Twitter to thunder about how #blessed they must be...
Only to realise that...
They've sent it to their entire database. 😑— Ben Wilson (@BenjiWilson) May 9, 2019
Whoopsie. Indeed, the e-commerce outfit formerly known to Brits on the high street as Virgin Megastores copped to a foul-up early this morning and tweeted a statement, since deleted but snapped by the BBC.
Apologies, we're aware of the problem regarding the recent Mastercard Competition. We seem to have had some technical issues and we're currently looking into this.
Undeterred, Adam Firrell quipped:
Talk about customer service, it appears #Zavvi have booked out the entire Wanda Metropolitano Stadium for it’s loyal customers. What a gesture! #ChampionsLeagueFinal2019 here we come 👏🏽🤦🏽♂️ #championsleague pic.twitter.com/eYeB5I6blp— Adam Firrell (@AdamFirrell) May 9, 2019
A more dejected Ian Smith reported to the micro-blogging site that Zavvi's Facebook page "says they are 'aware of problems with the competition' and has over 600 comments from other VIP 'winners'" in another seemingly nixed post.
However, messages of support continue to flood an earlier post from 6 May about the competition – and yes, literally everyone is, er, complaining that they have won.
So, while the two English sides are headed for a clash in the Spanish capital on 1 June, a significant number of fans' suitcases will continue to gather dust at the bottom of a wardrobe. And we suspect the backroom gremlin at Zavvi who pressed "go" on these emails is having a bloody awful day.
