FBI reopens Hillary spillery

Newly discovered messages linked to the private email server run by Hillary Clinton when she was US Secretary of State are being investigated by the FBI.

The Feds previously probed the Presidential wannabe's system and basically found nothing. It was feared hackers had ransacked the server looking for juicy sensitive files. Federal investigators ultimately declined to push for any charges against Clinton over the IT corner-cutting.

Now some more messages involving the server have come to light and these apparently need to be looked over to see if any secret government documents were mishandled by Clinton or her aides via this external private system. In a letter to members of Congress on Friday, FBI boss James Comey wrote:

In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.

I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.

Although the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant and I cannot predict how long it will take to complete this additional work, I believe it is important to update your Committees about our efforts in light of my previous testimony.

The emails were apparently discovered on gadgets owned by Huma Abedin, an aide to Clinton, and Abedin's husband, Anthony Weiner. The Feds are investigating sexts Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina – so this latest revelation may well have absolutely nothing to do with Clinton at all. Great job, Comey. ®
