Roku opens up

Streaming media company Roku has opened up its box further to third parties with a new "direct publisher" service.

The biz said companies with video content will now be able to add their channel to Roku's system "without entering a single line of code." The system will update itself from companies' content feeds, add that content to the box's search, and use Roku's ad serving software to make money from views.

It's free to become a Roku publisher and you get 60 per cent of any ad revenue. Roku uses the program to push itself as more of an open platform to its competitors: Apple, Amazon and Google. ®
