VMware releases SDDC 3.0

VMware has released the third edition of its validated design for a software-defined data centre and this time the recipes on offer allow a two-region rig.

That's a significant update, as it means VMware's dream data centre can be built into a configuration that's more useful in the real world, where things go wrong and failover is kind-of handy.

The new design also shrinks the manifest of kit required. Past versions of the design assumed you'd build a management pod, an edge pod and a compute pod. Now you can combine the first compute pod with an edge pod, meaning you get a bit of compute power back.
