Samsung's latest blowup

Samsung has said that it is not to blame for the first report of a Galaxy Note 7 exploding in China.

The company said on Monday that the phone was damaged by "external heating" and not due to its internal battery overheating.

"According to the burn marks on the sample, we surmise that the source of the heating comes from outside the battery, and it's very likely that there was an external factor causing the heating problem," it said.

The company has recalled the new phone across the globe after dozens of reports of them exploding. But it did not stop shipments to China, where phones have a battery from a different manufacturer. As such, a report at the weekend that a Chinese phone had also exploded sparked sudden interest and alarm. ®
