EurekAlert breach outage

Science news alert service EurekAlert! remains offline following a large-scale cyber attack earlier this month.

EurekAlert! - which is run by The American Association for the Advancement of Science, a non profit - offers daily trending science news, images and videos.

A cyber attack on 9 September left it unable to fulfil its normal functions, though it has maintained a skeleton service using email alerts.

In tweets from its official account over the weekend EurekAlert! expressed confidence that it would be able to restore access to public pages through a rebuilt site by sometime on Monday. Restricted-access sections of its website will be brought up later, as explained on a holding page.

Login IDs and passwords will be reset. It’s all very unfortunate. The one sliver of good news is that institutions are promised an extension of annual subscriptions for the inconveniences caused during the EurekAlert outage. ®
