Samsung's out of Milk

Samsung has decided to shutter its "Milk" streaming music service

"We have made the strategic decision to invest in a partner model focused on seamlessly integrating the best music services available today into our family of Galaxy devices," Samsung says. "We believe that working with partners will accelerate innovation, enhance device sales and provide amazing new experiences for our customers."

Or in other words, we tried to copy Spotify and Pandora, and failed, so now we're going to put one of them front and centre in future devices and hope they cough up for the privilege.

And so another platform owner discovers that over-the-top players often move faster, innovate harder and make a mockery of the supposed advantage that comes with controlling hardware. ®
