Android Pay now works for paying speeding fines

New South Wales grasps Google's gear in its one-stop-services-shops

The Australian State of New South Wales (NSW) has adopted Android Pay at is “Service NSW” one-stop-services-shops.

The decision to use Google pay means the State's citizens can now use their phones to pay traffic, fines vehicle registration fees and myriad other payments with a mere swipe of their phones. The Register imagines that means publicans can even use their Androids to sort out their annual liquor licence fee.

For now, Android Pay is only an over-the-counter option. But Service NSW “plans to bring the service to Service NSW’s digital stores, website and app in the coming months.”

The State's decision means Android Pay has stolen a march on Apple and Samsung, both of which have limited footprints in Australia. Apple's currently battling banks who want access to iDevices' NFC chips independently of Apple Pay, accusing a cadre of four deposit-takers as trying to defend their lucrative credit card empires. ®
