FireEye to fire ~400

Security vendor FireEye will shed between 300 and 400 staff, after second quarter revenue of US$196.4 million. That figure was up ten percent compared to Q2 2015, but was rather lower than the $200m to $215m the company had offered as guidance.

Cost savings are therefore on the agenda, starting with redundancies. The company also plans to re-vamp its sales force.

There's some perverse good news in the situation, which the company is blaming on recent hacks being less complex and therefore requiring less of FireEye consultants' times to fix. Ransomware, in particular, is quite easy to fix compared to the attacks of years past.

The company also says that its clients are opting for less comprehensive security products, which means lower sales for its own wares. ®
