Amazon denies hack claim

Amazon is denying the claims made by a miscreant who leaked online what looked like 80,000 customer records swiped from an Amazon Kindle server.

The database contains email addresses, hashed passwords, debug logs and other information supposedly taken from a hacked Amazon system. But the web giant says the info didn't come from its machines.

"We have confirmed that this information did not come from Amazon’s servers, and that the accounts in question are not legitimate Amazon customer accounts."

This after a hacker had claimed to have accessed the records of tens of thousands of Amazon Kindle service customers, and claimed to have posted records into a database dump. Amazon believes that those records were obtained elsewhere from a different service. ®
