VMware buys Arkin

VMware has acquired cloud management outfit Arkin.

Virtzilla's made the buy to get its claws on Arkin's code that gathers performance data on the NSX network virtualisation product. Arkin takes that data, makes sense of it and offers sysadmins a more-or-less-natural language query tool that can be used to figure out what's going on inside your virtual networks.

Automation, security, performance analytics and hybrid cloud are VMware's current watchwords and Arkin helps to do them all. VMware's told us that by bringing those capabilities to NSX, it will give customers comfort that NSX will be easier adopt and run.

VMware's not saying how much cash is changing hands, but as Arkin is a venture-capital backed affair this ought not to be a complex transaction. Arkin's already a VMware technology partner, so is a known quantity.

Interestingly, Arkin is advised by Nutanix CEO Dheeraj Pandey and Nimble Storage veep for sales Denis Murphy. ®
