Intel stretching Thunderbolt

Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 tech is about to stretch.

Today, Thunderbolt can deliver 40 gigabit super second connections but only over short cable runs. Today at Computex Intel said it will soon certify cables that include booster bits that allow 40gbps cables to reach two metres.

That’s a long way short of making Thunderbolt a threat to Ethernet, but welcome for those hoping to use it to connect to shared storage. ®
