Now Suzuki admits cheating

Suzuki has joined the list of car manufacturers that admitted they cheated on emissions tests.

"The company apologizes for the fact that we did not follow rules set by the country," said the Japanese company's CEO Osamu Suzuki. An estimated two million cars are affected. The company claims however that it did not intentionally lie or mislead regulators.

The company joins Mitsubishi and Volkswagen in admitting it did not meet emissions targets, mostly for reasons of fuel economy. Volkswagen was discovered to have written software that made the car run differently when stationary so its emissions would be lower when being tested at rest. ®
