US giant Ingram Micro snaps up little Brit Comms-care

Regulator mulls Ingram's acquisition by China's HNA

Tech distributor Ingram Micro has snapped up UK channel services minnow Comms-care for an undisclosed sum.

Comms-care sells maintenance services to resellers that can't provide services themselves. It has has 225 staff and 850 channel partners.

For the full year ended 2015, Comms-care posted a revenue increase of 33 per cent to £26.1m - mainly boosted by its acquisition of Platform Consultancy Services in 2014 for an undisclosed sum. Profit before tax increased from £3m in 2014 to £3.4m, according to its Company's House filing.

Brent McCarty, Ingram Micro's veep, said: “The addition of Comms-care supports our strategy to expand our global capabilities and expertise in fast growing, high value markets.

"Comms-care offers a unique opportunity as they have developed a well- respected, unique services model that exclusively serves the channel. We are delighted to welcome the Comms-care team to Ingram Micro."

Ingram is currently in the process of being acquired itself by the Chinese conglomerate HNA for $6bn (£4.6bn). However, due to the size of Ingram - which turns over $45bn (£35bn) in annual sales - the deal is being investigated by the US Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

As revealed by El Chan at the end of 2015, the biz has been on a UK-based acquisition spree, having also bought hosting and cloud service management system from Parallels. ®
