You can now host your own browser-based Microsoft Office.
Redmond's made this possible by releaseing "Office Online Server" (OOS), which lets you deliver your very own browser-based versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote, complete with real-time co-authoring.
"Microsoft recognizes that many organizations still value running server products on-premises for a variety of reasons," the company says by way of explanation for the unusual decision to release on-premises software.
The code integrates with all of Microsoft's other enterprise productivity servers - Skype, Exchange and SharePoint - for those who fancy a browser front-end to Redmond's finest. ®
