Primary Data is uniting block, file and object storage at EMC World.

Storage virtualiser Primary Data uses an out-of-band control function to deliver storage to server apps, using service level objectives to place data on appropriate and multi-vendor storage resources for its access and placement needs.

As data ages it can be migrated across tiers to save money. Primary Data's DataSphere product supports block, file and object (via S3) storage. At EMC World it demonstrated ScaleIO (block), Isilon (file) and ECS (object) working together and co-ordinated by DataSphere.
