Big Ben belittled by Infosys' plans for enormous erection

Outsourcer plans world's biggest clock tower on campus of corporate university

Infosys, which reckons its Mysuru education centre is the world's largest corporate university, says it's going to build a 135-metre clock tower there.

The massive erection would shade London's 96 metre Big Ben, California's 87m Hoover Tower and Cornell's 53m McGraw Tower, says India's Economic Times.

Why does Infosys need such a big erection? Its apparently down to aesthetics, with founder NR Narayana Murthy reportedly saying that the training centre looks incomplete without a clock tower.

Murthy apparently told the Economic Times a clock tower “brings a sense of academic breathing to the campus”.

It's going to be taking a big breath: the base will need to be 22 metres square for stability.

Bengaluru-based engineering firm KEF will pre-cast the tower in Tamil Nadu, and assemble it on the Mysuru site.

The campus has capacity to house 15,000 trainees, and claims to have trained more than 100,000 engineers. ®
