Enraged Brits demand Donald Trump UK ban
Blow-dried rabble-rouser even less popular than Phil Collins
Updated Enraged British citizens in their thousands are rushing to sign an e-petition demanding US presidential wannabe and blow-dried rabble-rouser Donald Trump be barred from darkening the UK's doors.
As won't have escaped your notice, Trump has got himself into a bit of bother by suggesting "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on".
As a result, one Suzanne Kelly set up the "Block Donald J Trump from UK entry" petition, which states:
The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK.
If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the 'unacceptable behaviour' criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.
The appeal has already attracted well over the 100,000 signatures required to oblige Parliament to consider the matter for a debate. However, the BBC reports that chancellor George Osborne has already rejected the "hypothetical" idea of telling Trump to do one, suggesting there is no indication the billionaire überpatriot intends to visit our shores.
The sheer numbers signing the e-petition demonstrate that the mere possibility of a Trump UK tour is even more unpalatable than a Phil Collins comeback. ®
Trump has also insisted that parts of London are so radicalised that cops "fear for their lives". Here's our own Alex "Alexander J." Martin's take on that, which he's been tormenting Vulture Central's scribes with all damn day:
Britain is so radicalised one of its favourite actors is Syrian McKellen. #TrumpFacts— Alexander J. Martin (@lexanderjmartin) December 8, 2015
The petition has struck such a chord with Brits that the website has begun crashing under the strain.
