VMware veep Bill Fathers steps aside to take 'more strategic role'
He's not part of new cloudy venture with EMC
VMware enterprise veep, board member and cloud czar Bill Fathers will not be part of the management family running the recently announced Cloud Services Business joint venture with EMC.
Last week, the cloudy partners formally launched their joint venture, following EMC's $1.2bn (£782m) acquisition of Virtustream in May.
However, a VMware spokeswoman said that, under the new structure, Fathers will be staying on at VMware in a more "strategic advisory role", adding that "he will not be involved in the leadership of Virtustream or the new Cloud Provider Software business unit".
The VMware and EMC company comprises VMware’s vCloud Air, VCE Cloud Managed Services, Virtustream’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service, and EMC’s Storage Managed and Object Storage Services.
The Virtustream-branded business will be run by Virtusteam CEO Rodney Rogers.
Fathers joined VMware in March 2013 as general manager for VMware's new hybrid cloud services business with responsibility for all aspects of strategy and execution. ®
