Rapid7 inhales cloudy machine data search firm Logentries

Metasploit maker goes deeper into compliance

Rapid7 has bought cloud-based machine data search and log company Logentries for $68m in cash and equity, allowing Rapid7 to add that functionality to its widely used penetration testing tool Metasploit.

Adding disruptive log management and efficient, fast search will give corporate security teams the ability to deeply investigate incidents and meet compliance requirements more efficiently, according to Rapid7.

Rapid7 said it expects the acquisition of Logentries to be neutral to operating cash flow in the second half of 2016, before boosting cash flow and earning in 2017 and beyond.

Logentries’s tech offers a cloud-based approach for searching, visualising, and analysing machine data and logs. Built-in tagging, alerting, and reporting allows customers to maintain a proactive view of their environment and identify anomalous events.

Users can store and search structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in real time

This technology dovetails with Rapid7’s existing threat exposure management, and incident detection, investigation, and analytics capabilities.

Logentries, which employs around 70, serves more than 3,000 customers in over 65 countries across a range of industries. ®
