Here they come: Salesforce unleashes Wave analytics tools

New apps on their way in realtime with an ERP twist

Salesforce has announced new apps and ISV partners for its real-time analytics-as-a-service Wave cloud.

A year on from announcing its great Wave cloud, Salesforce introduced Wave Actions, Lightning Reports and Dashboards, and Wave embedded dashboards.

Actions are tools that let you create actions based in information or data.

The Lightning Reports and Dashboards are built based on the ability to resize and re-arrange running reports for use with the real-time engine powering Wave, while dashboard will work in any Salesforce record or object the CRM giant said.

Salesforce reckoned 13 ISVs will show off Wave Analytics pilot apps during the company’s Dreamforce conference, which takes place this week in San Francisco, California.

These include apps for quote-to-cash and supply chain analytics under the guise of ERP.

Wave Actions is due to become generally available in October and will come with a Wave Analytics Platform licence, while Lightning Reports and Dashboards are part of Lightning Experience for Sales Cloud in preview and also expected next month.

Wave is the real-time analytics cloud floated by Marc Benioff’s firm at last year’s Dreamforce.

The UI is based on a gaming engine, allowing graphics be altered, animated and streamed to nearby screens or tablets. It is also mobile friendly, with native versions for iOS, Android and Windows phones.

The system sucks on data housed not just in the great throbbing engine that is the Salesforce platform, but also data from outside, including Cloudera and Hortonworks Hadoop, various apps running on Windows and others.

Expect more Salesforce razzmatazz as Marc Benioff’s annual event rolls out this week. ®
