Onedotzero collaborator and graphic artist Rexbox and his cute character creations are the inspiration for this single player platformer Tearaway Unfolded. Originally released on PlayStation Vita, it looked stunning even on a tiny screen.

Now, with a fresh PS4 update, it makes the most of next-gen tech wizardry using innovative game mechanics such as the drawing board, which allows input from not only the dual shock control but companion apps on tablets for budding artists.

Tearaway Unfolded has undeniably been touched by the Media Molecule Magic – there’s nuance and beauty in every interaction, such as controlling the wind by swiping the touchpad. You can use the in-game camera and hipstamatic filters (and even the in-game ability to create animated gifs) to create a new coat of pop art fur for a passing stag.

With rumours that Media Molecule hired a pop-up book engineer to give developers lessons on paper craft, it’s unsurprising falling confetti is the currency for upgrades. I spent much of my time playing Tearaway Unfolded throwing gophers and squirrels as ammunition against nasty scraps and crows and now I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening. Kirigami never looked so cutting edge.
