'Get your ass to Market Street!' Arnold Schwarzenegger to give drive-by directions
Governator will show you around town with Waze plug-in
Action film star and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is offering his voice to Google's Waze navigation app.
The new voice option, part of a promotion for the film Terminator: Genisys, will have Waze offering driving directions with Schwarzenegger's voice in place of its normal navigation voice.
"From the first time I used Waze, I have wanted to lend my voice to it. The Terminator is the perfect machine to guide Wazers to their destinations," said the Kindergarten Cop star and man once tasked with running the world's 10th largest economy.
"Every single day on social media fans ask me to record my movie lines, so now I get to bring this classic role and my charming Austrian accent into their cars."
Arnold's voice is being made available to Waze users free of charge and can be accessed through the language settings screen on the Waze app for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices.
In addition to Arnold's voice, the new Waze option also sports special locators for movie theaters showing his new movie. A special red "Terminator eyeball" icon will denote movie houses showing Terminator: Genisys, which begins screening in cinemas worldwide next week.
The release is part of a promotion for the latest installment of the 31 year-old Terminator movie franchise in which Schwarzenegger plays a robot sent back in time first to kill, then protect humans who are destined to lead a resistance against machines in the future.
The Waze crowdsourced mapping app launched in 2003 and was acquired by Google in 2013 afer a lengthy pursuit that was said to also involve Apple and Facebook. The New York Times reports that the app has more than 50 million users. ®
