Rodent rescue reckoned as remedy for cursor crisis cruelling BYOD

Citrix's experimental mouse to become official at Synergy conference next week

Citrix will next week release a mouse.

The company floated the idea back in January when it released a “limited edition” X1 Mouse. The thinking behind the mouse, then and now, is that lots of organisations want to pipe Windows apps into iPads and the like, but it's hard to use a GUI designed for a mouse with your finger. Complicating matters further, the iPad doesn't support mice.

That's bad news for Citrix, as the company is all about piping making enterprise apps available on any device.

Hence the January thought bubble and news that the test units provided to punters have proven so popular that Citrix is going to formally productise the rodent, along with an updated iOS Receiver 5.9.5 to help it work.

“This does not signal Citrix’s entry into the Mouse business,” the company says, so we presume you won't be able to buy an X1 at your local office supplies store. But the company says the rodent is an indicator of the out-of-the-box innovation we'll all see next week at the Synergy conference. Or maybe we should says out-of-a-box innovation: the company says the X1 should tip doubters about a trip to Synergy out of their chairs and onto a plane. Might that mean more hardware? ®
