Three's 'Home Signal' femtocells fail, restore mobile black spots

Angry users' bank holiday weekends were too quiet

Updated UK telco Three appears to be having problems with its Home Signal femtocells.

The Home Signal is promoted as “a great way to make calls and send texts if you have trouble getting signal indoors” because it hooks a small mobile phone cell - a femtocell – into a DSL connection. For punters whose homes are in mobile blackspots, the Home Signal offers a lifeline because by routing voice over the internet it busts black spots.

But a great many Home Signal owners are reporting that their devices have been inoperable for about five days.

Downdetector currently offers up all manner of complaints.

And of course Twitter is being used to vent about the mess, and prod Three to get it fixed.

Three Support has taken to the avian network to acknowledge the issue.

The thread embedded above has been going since May 3rd, so this is now getting nasty.

We've been unable, however, to find official word on what's gone wrong or when the carrier imagines service might be restored. The Reg has asked Three to offer that detail and will update this story if and when it arrives. ®

Update

Three believes it has now fixed this problem. A company representative told the Register (at 8:24 GMT on 6 May):

"This has been fixed and affected boxes should now be working again as normal."

Update 2

Or maybe it hasn't.
