Connected Data gets serious about the business of file sharing
No public cloud security risk, you say
It’s now available in Europe – yep, Connected Data has upped its peer-to-peer, file sync ’n share game with Transporter for Business, a way of sharing files that has no public cloud security risk at all.
The Transporter is a cone-shaped device providing private cloud, peer-to-peer file sharing for consumers. There are some 12,000 products deployed.
The technology was extended to small and medium business users with what was first called Transporter Genesis, announced in October 2014.
It GA’d in the US by January, renamed as Transporter for Business, and is now available in Europe, with the Transporter 15 and 30 devices expanding the range to four products.
Files can be accessed from PCs and smart mobile devices using Transporter apps for Android, IOS, Mac and Windows. You can view Transporters as a NAS filer with integrated sync 'n share.
These files never get moved into public clouds, as is the case with Box and Dropbox and, because the Transporters are on-premises equipment, data locality regulations, where they apply, can be met, as can data privacy requirements.
There are four products:
- Transporter 15 with 8TB capacity (6TB usable), 15 users
- Transporter 30 - 12TB (9TB usable), 30 users
- Transporter 75 - 12TB (10 usable), 75 users
- Transporter 150 - 24TB (20TB usable) and, you guessed it, 150 users
Connected Data says there is simplicity behind the blue bezel
Unlimited numbers of guest users are supported. A Transporter network can mix and match these products.
Connected Data says users get Dropbox simplicity and convenience while IT gets the data security and access control it needs; Transporters integrate with Active Directory for example.
There are no monthly or per-user fees; you just buy the devices and software. Data is automatically synced between Transporter appliances. Files are versioned and there are auditing and read-only controls.
Connected Data CEO Geoff Barrall says there are more than 35,000 Transporter users collectively managing more than 20PB of data. Get more info here.
MSRP prices are; Transporter 15 - $2,499, Transporter 30 - $4,999, Transporter 75 - $9,999, Transporter 150 - $18,999. Find out more here. ®
