Euro Parliament report on intrusion tech in 'third' countries

Dutch Member of European Parliament, Marietje Schaake, has asked the public for input into her report on surveillance and human rights.

Anyone with even a vague interest in “the impact of intrusion and surveillance systems on human rights in third countries” is invited to send their thoughts to marietje.schaake-office@ep.europa.eu before 16 March. But before anyone gets too worked up about GCHQ, “third countries” in EU parlance means non-EU lands… she’s looking at you Putin, and you Assad.

“Technologies can help advance human rights such as access to information and freedom of expression. Yet, too many surveillance and intrusion technologies are being produced in Europe and sold to enable human rights violations. We need smart regulation to ensure we facilitate the protection of rights, and not their violation,” said Schaake. ®
