Lenovo sings distie initiation song, adds Westcoast to line-up

Chinese biz seeks B2B goodness in Blighty

Industry eyes may be on Lenovo’s swollen server digits after wolfing down IBM’s System x biz but the Chinese dragon is upping the numbers in its PC distie ranks to pull in more sales across Blighty.

Reading-based Westcoast today took on the professional side of the portfolio, adding to the Lenovo consumer clients it already carries.

The addition of Westcoast takes Lenovo’s B2B PC distributors to four, also including Micro P, Tech Data and Ingram Micro.

Lenovo may be the biggest shifter of PC tin globally, but the UK remains a stronghold for HP, particulrly in the B2B arena.p>

Distributor sales stats compiled by Context, showed Lenovo grew B2B PC shipments double digits in Q2, Q3 and for two thirds of Q4 last year, but its market share of 25 per cent lagged HP’s of 42.7 per cent.

Lenovo, however, has a prime opportunity to put pressure on its arch rival as HP prepares to spin out its PC and printer businesses into a separately traded entity, HP Inc.

Marc Godin, UK and Ireland boss at Lenovo, confirmed the distie deal but was unable to comment further at the time of writing. Westcoast was unavailable at the time of writing. ®
