Coming clean: Ten cordless vacuum cleaners
Incredible suckers
Gtech Multi
At 1.6kg the Gtech Multi appears heavy, however all tools needed are stored on it (how revolutionary?) with the crevice tool and dusting brush stowed away in the body and the extension hose simply pulls out for extra reach.
The Multi features LED illumination that for some might prove a bit scary as they really pick out just how dusty your home is. You get a 30 minute run time from a four-hour charge or if desperate for a quick clean, charging for 60 minutes will give a burst of additional run-time. The rubberised soft handle feels nice to hold and it has a detachable battery that can be replaced and a similar trigger start action to the Dyson.
Gtech says its new Multi handheld vacuum cleaner is the "perfect partner" for the AirRam, as the tools give it the flexibility to clean all the hard-to-reach places like curtains, skirting boards, stairs, shelves and inside a car. But then again, that means buying two cleaners which doesn’t seem so practical, especially as the Multi is one of the more expensive handhelds here. Even so, the Multi has some very practical features going for it.

Vorwerk Kobold VC100
If you ever have the dubious pleasure of talking to a vac aficionado, then it won’t be long before the name Vorwerk pops up. This manufacturer was one of the first to introduce Lithium-ion power cells in handheld vacuum devices.
Installed in its charging station the glossy white VC100 is a discreet little sucker. I leave it sitting on the kitchen worktop for easy crumb pick-up. Small enough not to get in the way, but very handy to just grab for kitchen mess.
The run time is 20 minutes with LED display to show exact battery power level left. The charge level always remains high, as it’s soon placed back on the charging station after quick pick-ups.
Ergonomic in the best sense of the word, it’s light and designed with the weight distribution near the handle. It’s sleek too, but what this handheld from Vorwerk has going for it is it suits everyone – looks great in a mod apartment but equally so in country abode.
It does lacks a soft head attachment though, so it's not great for cleaning electronics. The suction is strong for small pick-ups, and probably the best on the market for anyone wanting a lightweight model that doesn’t take its toll on the hand or arm, but it is pricey. ®
