Computacenter UK boss Muller: Happy New Year, folks... I'm off

Internal and external successors line up

Six potential candidates are in the running to replace Computacenter’s outgoing UK managing director Neil Muller, who has resigned but remains on board until the end of January.

Muller rocked up at London-based CC in early 1994 as a sales administrator and rose through the ranks over the subsequent two decades, getting his current role in January 2011, replacing Simon Walsh, who is now EMC EMEA COO.

Mike Norris, CEO at the services-based reseller, told us he is talking to half a dozen individuals about the soon-to-become-vacant role, the majority of whom are already at the firm, but is not going to hire someone before year-end.

“The evidence of the last few years has proved that Computacenter has got a talent factory, and though these are tough boots to fill, we have a string of people wanting to step into them,” he told us.

Norris said he was “disappointed” to see Muller leave but confirmed the outgoing MD has a role lined up at a tech company that CC has never competed with.

Muller, who is in charge of 900 staffers in the UK, out of a total of 5,000, refused to name his next employer, “I leave CC with an exceptionally heavy heart, the company is at the top of its game”.

The UK operation has been a bright point for the company in the last few years, with product sales and services contract wins helping to beef up the financials.

In Q3, UK revenues grew five per cent year-on-year to £314m to make it the largest sales territory for CC, as the French and German wings battled against tougher local economies. ®
