You know where Apple Pay is getting used a LOT? Yes - McDonalds
Black rollnecks straining across USA as fanbois bonk-to-supersize
Half of all McDonald's US touch purchase transactions are now made using Apple Pay, the fast food giant has announced.
You'd think Apple fans would be more likely to buy trendy organic nosh at Whole Foods than walk under the Golden Arches to buy a supersize meal. But the iColytes of Cupertino are seemingly willing to do both.
Whole Foods said it has processed 150,000 Apple Pay transactions in the three weeks since Apple Pay launched in the US.
Mega drugstore chain Walgreens, meanwhile, said it had seen mobile wallet payments double since iPay hit the stores.
Analysts said Apple was successfully pushing mobile payments into the hands of people who might not otherwise have been interested.
"Quite frankly, a lot of it has to do with the strength of the Apple brand and how much merchants and customers love how easy the experience is,” said Denée Carrington, an analyst at Forrester Research. “I’m not saying it’s changing the landscape overnight, but this has never happened with other mobile wallets.”
The rollout of Apple Pay has not been entirely trouble free. Users have been hit with a "double bonk" bug which has seen some people charged twice when paying using Cupertino's cashless cash. ®
