Million Mask March: Anonymous' London Guy Fawkes protest a damp squib

And Vivienne Westwood got refused entry to a pub

Pics Anonymous' #MillionMaskMarch hit London amid a flurry of fireworks on the symbolic date of 5 November, Guy Fawkes night. Despite the symbolism, it was pretty lame.

Your correspondent, fresh from a hard day staring at screens and drinking tea, wandered along to Trafalgar Square to see what the fuss was all about.

There was a fuss, albeit a surprisingly muted one given all of the various Twitter graphics doing the rounds which promised a V for Vendetta-style turnover of the capital, complete with Parliament going up in smoke.

Upon arriving at Trafalgar Square a little after 5pm, the advertised start time, we found a fair-sized crowd which mainly consisted of curious students and the usual aged left-wing bores who always turn up at London events, whether relevant to their stated cause or not.

Art? Anonymous swarm around London's National Gallery

Lame: Bored coppers watch as 'Anonymous' pose for pictures by Nelson's Column

Most of the crowd seemed to be the usual rent-a-mob of left-wing sympathisers. Your correspondent saw, variously, Palestinian flags, Socialist Worker placards, a Soviet Union flag, a Scottish flag and various other weird and wonderful emblems.

Flags: This lot must be real, they've got a bit of cloth on a stick

All rather odd for a supposedly anarchist hacker collective. In your correspondent's opinion, real anarchists don't call for the replacement of democracies with authoritarian dictatorships.

Signal failure: Two London Underground managers look worried as Anonymous protestors gather in Trafalgar Square, outside Charing Cross Tube station

A variety of uniformed folk stood around the outside of the central gathering, wondering what to do about them. Someone half-heartedly threw a coffee cup at two tourist information officers.
