Book closing on next HP UK PC and printer boss

EMEA distie veep Simon Ewington odds on favourite among channelites

The smart money is on HP naming Simon Ewington as the next head of the Printing and PC biz in the UK and Ireland to replace outgoing chief Paul Hunter.

Hunter leaves to become HP CEO Meg Whitman's bagman chief-of-staff in August but the company has already whittled down the list of candidates to a few names, we understand.

The word on the street is that Ewington, who is well known to HP partners, is leading the pack and a bunch of sources expect him to get the job.

It is believed that HP favours an internal applicant - as it did with the channel director position recently - who is British and has extensive experience within PPS. These are boxes the Ewington application ticks.

Ewungton has been the veep for PPS distribution across EMEA for several years, and prior to that was HP's head of imaging and printing distribution for the region.

One channel source described the man as a "good agent of change", claiming Ewington is a pragmatist who is well versed in Whitman's more channel friendly mantra.

"PPS brought in a scheme that if both HP and the distributor missed the sales target in a challenging market, there would still be some financial relief [for the partner]," a source claimed.

HP told us it had not yet confirmed Hunter's replacement, and Ewington has not yet replied to our mail requesting comment. ®
