CSC: Brits, say hi to your new UK boss – say bye to 750 coworkers
Hundreds of staff in Blighty warned of redundancy risk
On the day stumbling US giant CSC named the latest person to sit in its UK hot seat, it also told 750 of its workers in Blighty they are at risk of redundancy, The Channel can reveal.
The mega-integrator, which presided over a good chunk of the bungled £10.1bn NHS National Programme for IT, confirmed former Cognizant senior veep Dr Sanjiv Gossain is to replace Liz Benison as the UK country lead.
Gossain arrives at CSC with 25 years in tech under his belt, the past decade of which was spent at the consultancy where he fronted UK ops and was in charge of the global telco unit.
The man will report to exec veep and general manager for global sales and marketing John Maguire, who talked up his recruit's "extensive technology experience, proven management ability and outstanding client relationships".
However, Gossain will likely be in control of a shrinking staff base as hundreds of workers were today warned they may be for the chop.
A spokeswoman for CSC told us:
“As part of its ongoing transformation strategy, CSC continues to redesign its global operations with the objective of becoming a more nimble, accountable, efficient organisation to improve its service to clients.
"The redesign has resulted in the loss of some jobs in locations throughout CSC’s network, including the UK. We estimate that up to 750 employees will be impacted in the UK, all of whom will be supported professionally, compassionately and with assistance, where necessary, in their transition from CSC."
One source told us that the management will decide over the next four to six weeks which areas of the business will be hit by the cuts.
It has been a tough couple of years for CSC after its disastrous fiscal 2012 when it reported losses of $4.24bn, caused in no small part by the NHS calamity. The integrator returned to the black is fiscal 2013, filing profit of $951m. At the time it said its global workforce was 80,000.
We asked CSC what the appointment of Gossain means for Liz Benison, who has been UK boss since 2011, joining from Capgemini, but have yet to hear back. Benison was unavailable to comment at the time of writing.
CSC has confirmed that Bension has left the building. ®
