EMC: We've stomped out VNX2 reboot issue
Have you tried rebooting it?
We've been hearing about a bug in EMC's VNX2 software which causes it to reboot every 80 days.
Tweets like this one have been appearing like canaries in a coalmine:
@TheJasonNash I just bought a Vnx28000 and expect another one coming soon... Anyways, looking for info on the vnx reboot issue? New to EMC

Bull is a worldwide EMC partner and one of its online support pages mentions the issue:
URGENT : Unexpected (storage processor) panic on new VNX2 [which reboots] every 80 days. The EMC note ETA1756199 warns for a logic issue not still corrected.
Both SPs may reboot every 80 days and cause [loss of access to] data...
Until the issue is fixed in a future release, [this] workaround must be applied by customer:
1. Reboot SPA
2. Wait 30 min
3. Reboot SPB
The SP reboot can be [obtained] from Unisphere in the menu "System" -> "Storage Hardware"
Right-click on the SP and select "Reboot"
(Bull is a French supplier and the English text needed a little polishing.)
Affected VNX2 models are the VNX5200, VNX5400, VNX5600, VNX5800, VNX7600 and VNX8000.
We asked EMC about it and a spokesperson said: "This issue was addressed with a non-disruptive upgrade fix that has been made available to customers and partners." No big deal then. ®
