Who said there's no money in the channel?

Microsoft Large Account Reseller Software Box Ltd (SBL) tucked away an improved set of financials in fiscal 2012 with profits pumping out comparatively healthy double digits.

The York-based purveyor of hard and soft tech saw sales rise 4 per cent to £87.9m, operating profit jump 25 per cent to £2.2m and net profit climb 31 per cent to £1.68m in the year to 31 August 2012, a recent filing at Companies House revealed.

Gross margins edged up from 8 per cent a year earlier to 8.2 per cent, overheads were maintained at the previous year's level.

Staffing levels were down by three heads to 93 in the year, and turnover per employee went up to £945,000 from £879,000.

"The revenue momentum that has built up in the year, especially on the portfolio of services and hardware that the company now delivers, has been particularly positive," the firm said in a director's report.

The balance sheet strengthened during the fiscal year, moving to a cash surplus of £9.5m from £5.2m a year earlier. ®
