Azlan inserts temporary head at HP biz unit

John Ward on board until permanent replacement found

Azlan has made John Ward the caretaker of its HP business unit as a search for a permanent head continues.

The enterprise distribution arm of Basingstoke-based Computer 2000 went through a restructure some weeks ago and parted with some senior heads including Mark Walker, director of the converged infrastructure unit.

The business unit structure went from being based on vertical technologies to based on vendors, with discrete Cisco and IBM operations being set up – run by Mark Wheeler and Kevin Markwick respectively.

Colin McGregor, enterprise director at Azlan, told The Reg that Azlan was now on the hunt for a big hitter to lead the HP business unit, with Ward "taking interim caretaker management as we go out to market to look for a business unit director".

Ward is already HP business unit manager at Azlan.

McGregor said the restructure – which aligns each vendor with a standalone team – had simplified Azlan's route to market: rather than potentially having three Cisco heads talking to the same reseller about their respective technology areas there is now only one.

"It wasn't making engagement easy and it wasn't giving us a great deal of continuity," he said, adding that some vendors were not getting "much touch". ®
