UPDATED McGregor set to take control at Azlan

Networking distie to enthrone new boss

Azlan has concluded the search for a new boss with former Avnet Technology Solutions exec Colin McGregor set to take on the role, The Register can confirm.

McGregor, who was EMEA director of enterprise at Avnet until he left last September - the first in a number of departures as the distributor integrated the Bell Microproducts acquisition - set up a consultancy business in the interim.

Talking to El Reg, McGregor confirmed he is to join the 80-strong Basingstoke-based enterprise distributor from 1 September when his one year non-compete clause expires.

"There is potential to supplement the portfolio including some upside around the security market," he said, "and I want to look at services, delivering consultancy with resellers to users at the pre-sales stage."

McGregor said he also planned to cut a greater swathe through the ISV and system integrator markets.

"If you look at that sector, its a huge market place and one that potentially has not been addressed [by us] as it could have been because the focus was not there," he added.

Azlan was managed by industry veteran Ian French for around 14 months until he exited stage left in March to return to the consultancy business he formed after leaving his role as EMEA president at Bell Microproducts in February 2004. ®

During that time he recruited big hitters from the distribution market including BSG sales director Joe Breen, and distie veterans Mark Walker, William Bond, Joel Chimondes and Simon Welch from Avnet.

McGregor said French had laid the foundations for Azlan "to be viewed as a serious business in the market". ®
