Beats off HCL to secure Ireland deal
IBM has won a contract to supply IT services to the Bank of Ireland, services previously supplied by HP.
The five-year contract covers IT infrastructure and is the result of exclusive negotiations, due diligence and work with regulators since July.
IBM will take responsibility for desktop machines, servers, mainframes, local area networks and helpdesks and support.
As the Reg revealed in May, HP was cut from the shortlist for the multimillion pound deal. An internal email showed the bank considering bids from HCL and IBM, having rejected HP's offer.
Staff were asked to behave considerately to the 500 staff moved from the bank to HP as a result of the original win.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but HP claimed the original deal was worth $600m, in 2004.
The ink giant said at the time it was "the largest ever IT services contract in Ireland to date". ®
