Sage Pay upgrade woes hit merchants

Computer says no

Thousands of e-commerce merchants are still struggling to process transactions following problems with a weekend upgrade by payment processor Sage Pay.

The upgrade was designed to make transaction processing faster and more resilient for the 32,000 merchants in the UK and Ireland who rely on the firm's service to handle e-commerce transactions.

However, problems with Live Gateway and My Sage Pay introduced during the upgrade left merchants unable to complete payments for much of Monday. A further related problem discovered on Tuesday meant that settlement files were not sent to merchants' banks, according to status page logs forwarded to El Reg by Sage Pay merchants.

Sage Pay's support forum contains several posts complaining about the transaction-procession problems. The design of the new interface has also emerged as a bone of contention.

We've asked Sage Pay to comment on these reported problems and will update this story as and when we hear more.

Earlier this week we reported how the upgrade resulted in inconvenience for an unknown number of users whose passwords contained "special characters". Affected customers were obliged to change their login IDs so that they contained only alpha-numerical characters. This is according to a Sage Pay user who was the first to tell us that all was not well with the systems at the payment processor. ®
