Three intros second-gen MiFi

Have Wi-Fi hotspot, will travel

Three will release its second-generation MiFi modem-meets-hotspot gadget next month.

Like the original MiFi, the new model is a rebadged device - this time the E585 - from Chinese telecoms giant Huawei. The new version sports a better, OLED display and one-touch operation, Three said.

The new screen displays information like the amount of data used, speed of the current connection and length of browsing time.

Three also pointed out that the new model has the web-based administration console missing from Three's original MiFi though present on the generic E5 - reviewed here.

The MiFi shares a 3G HSDPA connection with up to five devices through its own Wi-Fi network. Reg Hardware is currently using the Huawei model to bring 3G to its non-3G iPad while out on the road, for example.

The new MiFi will be available in July for £50 on pay-as-you-go. ®
