Hamilton Rentals regains independence

£10m MBO for rent-a-server outfit

Management at Hamilton Rentals has carried a £10m MBO from the rental outfit’s parent, 2e2.

The Hamilton Rentals name has a long history in the channel before being absorbed by Compel in 1996. The Hamilton Rentals brand continued at veteran reseller Compel, which was itself absorbed by 2e2 last year.

The management at the rentals unit, which deals with the likes of Sun, HP, IBM and Lenovo, pitched an MBO last September, which was “readily accepted” as it was not a core part of 2e2’s business. The management put up the investment cash themselves, apparently.

So, after over ten years, Hamilton has gained its independence.

Hamilton Rentals MD Martin O’Connor said the company is now free to move into new channels which previously had not been open to it.

Perhaps it will also be able to ditch the Hamilton moniker, should it so choose. Although its website says the company was formed in 1962, the origins of the name are lost in the mists of pre-internet time, and even we can’t remember if there ever was a Mr or Ms Hamilton involved with the business. ®
