ACS pays $60m for Syan

From Dallas to Telford in one leap

Affiliated Computer Services has paid $60m in cash for British outsourcer and IBM specialist Syan Holdings.

The deal brings Shropshire-based Syan’s operations, including two data centers, under the ACS umbrella. ACS said the deal would extend its ability to support global customers. Syan services include server hosting and management, applications and desktop management, and help desk.

Privately owned Syan turned over just under £42m in 2006, generating profits of £1.1m.

Syan has been around since 1985, initially starting off in the IBM mid-range market. It has 200 staff in the UK spread across five offices – a drop in the ocean compared to Dallas-based ACS’ 62,000 staff across 100 countries.®
