ComputerLand takes O2 managed services business

ComputerLand has swiped a chunk of services business at O2 which was formerly held by reseller and services giant Computacenter.

Mobile telco O2 wanted to merge its desktop and server managed services into a single contract, and had put the business out to tender. Computacenter supplied desktop services to O2 and its previous incarnation, BT Cellnet.

ComputerLand said in its preliminary results for the year ended 30 April that it had won the battle for the desktop and server contract which will be worth £15m over five years.

While the O2 deal has yet to be formalised, and O2 has yet to officially issue notice against its former supplier, Computacenter is understood to have already given the bad news to employees working on the contract.

ComputerLand turned over £59.3m in the year to 30 April, compared to £59.5m the previous year. Pre-tax profits grew five per cent to £2.23m.

In its results statement, ComputerLand was bullish about its services business, pointing to contract wins with Comet, Focus DIY, and Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire County Council. It said its reselling business had been below expectations in the first half, but had picked up in the second half.

The new financial year had started in line with expectations, and contracted services should show “a further significant increase” during the year.
