Nvidia ships first integrated chipsets

C51 comes to market

Nvidia has introduced its C51 AMD-oriented integrated graphics chipset, pushing the product as a graphics add-on for two new members of the nForce 4 chipset family.

Available in two forms, the GeForce 6150 and GeForce 6100, the chips provides GeForce 6 series - Intellisample 3.0, CineFX 3.0, Ultrashadow 2.0 etc - DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 graphics and are clocked to 475MHz and 425MHz, respectively. Both chips provide a x16 PCI Express interface allowing motherboard makers to support graphics card add-ins. The chipsets incorporate 300MHz RAMDACs.

Both GPUs do MPEG 2 and WMV 9 video decoding. The 6150 supports HD video support in 1080p and 1080i modes, while the 6100 provides only standard resolution. The lower-end part also lacks the 6150's TV encoding and TMDS/DVI support, and can do 2 x 2 video scaling. The 6150 can scale video to 5 x 4, and incorporates Nvidia's PureVideo image enhancement system.

The 6150 is coupled with the nForce 4 430 South Bridge, as is the 6100, which is also offered with the nForce 4 410 chip. The 430 provides a pair of x1 PCI Express lanes, while the 410 offers just one. Both chips can control up to four parallel ATA drives, but while the 430 can also handle four 3Gbps Serial ATA units, the 410 can run only two. That limits it to RAID 0 and 1, whereas the 430 can do RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and 5.

The 410 is limited to 10/100Mbps Ethernet, whereas the 430 also does gigabit Ethernet. It also has Nvidia's firewall circuitry, unlike the 410. Both South Bridges can control up to eight USB 2.0 ports.

Nvidia said systems based on the three chipsets - 6150/430, 6100/430 and 6100/410 - will ship next month. Boards from the likes of Asustek, Biostar, Chaintech, DFI, ECS, Epox, Foxconn, Gigabyte, Jetway, MSI and Shuttle are available now. ®
