China ‘huge potential’ for broadband

And?

China is set to have more than 19m broadband users by 2006, according to a new report by the Yankee Group.

Currently, China has some 323,400 broadband subscribers, but Yankee predicts this number is set to explode as more and more people adopt the technology.

In China, Ethernet-based broadband services are available for less than $20 a month with connection speeds of 10 Mbps.

The report Asia-Pacific Broadband Access: Market Review and Outlook also forecast that broadband subscriber numbers will continue to grow in the whole AP region.

At the end of last year there were almost 13 million broadband users in the region, but this will accelerate to 64.5m by 2006, said Yankee.

China represents a market with "huge potential" said Yankee analysts Agatha Poon. ®
