Benhamou quits as 3Com CEO

Ten-year 'privilege'

Eric Benhamou is to quit as 3Com CEO after ten years.

He will be succeeded by Bruce Claflin, 3Com president and COO, at the end of the year and will remain chairman.

"I believe it is in the best interest of a company and its leader, to self-rejuvenate. It's been my privilege to serve as 3Com's CEO for ten years, a long time in this industry," Benhamou said at the company's annual shareholder meeting today in Santa Clara.

The 45-year-old became CEO of California-based 3Com in September 1990 and at the time he made a ten-year commitment to the job. Claflin, 48, joined 3Com from Digital - where he was senior VP and general manager for sales and marketing - two years ago. He also worked at IBM for 22 years. ®
